Aldericus

Karolingisch monnik en boekverluchter, werkzaam in de 1e helft van de 9e eeuw in de abdij Corvey aan de Weser. Blijkens een aantekening op folio 3 verluchter van een exemplaar van de Terentius thans bewaard in Vaticaanstad, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. Deze signatuur en de signatuur van de verluchter Macregol zijn de beide enige signaturen van Insulaire en Karolingische verluchters die uit de 8e en 9e eeuw bewaard zijn gebleven, aldus Alexander 1992, p. 6.

De aantekening luidt als volgt: “Miserere mei deus … Adelricus me fecit“.
Hoewel het woord “fecit” (= maken) neutraal is en dus ook naar de schrijver kan verwijzen, mogen we toch aannemen dat hiermee de verluchter is bedoeld aangezien ook de schrijver Hrodegarius zijn naam in het handschrift heeft geschreven.

According to a note on folio 3, a copy of the Terentius is now preserved in Vatican City, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. This signature and the signature of the Macregol illuminator are the only two signatures of Insular and Carolingian illuminators that have been preserved from the 8th and 9th centuries, according to Alexander 1992, p. 6. The note reads as follows: “Miserere mei deus … Adelricus me fecit”. Although the word “fecit” (= make) is neutral and can therefore refer to the writer, we can nevertheless assume that this is the illuminator since the writer Hrodegarius also wrote his name in the manuscript.
